Chain Gang forever !!

Chain Gang forever!!

If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good.
Dr. Seuss

The Chain gang will set off from the same place, at the same time and with the same intentions as it does each week. Except this will be the last one on a Thursday evening for this season, the darker nights are drawing in and with an overcast sky it can get too dark too early.. So lets make it a good one.

But don't be downhearted...

It will meet again on Saturday mornings at 09.45 to start riding at 10.00 starting Saturday 25th September.

Why the wait? I here you ask. Saturday 11th September has many Welland Valley riders either competing or marshalling the N&DCA time trial at Naseby. Saturday September the 18th is the Welland Valley Wonder Audax that a number of riders will take part in, leaving the 25th the first opportunity.

What is the Chain Gang?
The Chain Gang is a gathering of riders who take part in a training ride that has many benefits for the rider:
Riding in a group
Staying close to a wheel
Communication
Developing skills of moving through and across a pack of riders
Managing a change of pace
Team work
Camaraderie
Possibly working harder than you would by yourself.
Plus other benefits.

There are some similarities between the Chain Gang and a Club Run and both would be a useful step towards developing the skills and experience needed for Road Racing. The chain gang makes use of a circuit/course and can be at a higher intensity than a Club Run that follows a route and often includes a cafe stop.

Why participate?
If you like working hard on the bike and you enjoy riding in a group, then that is reason enough to take part. If you have an interest in Road Racing and intend racing at some point, then the chain gang could help you reach your goal.

If, after the Bruntingthorpe Club Races, you think you might want to develop this cycling discipline further and perhaps take part in road races against riders from other clubs, then come along to the Chain Gang rides and see if it's for you.

When and where does it take place?
We meet at Church Langton School 6.30pm - 6.45pm to start riding at 6.45pm and follow the following course:
From Church Langton school - Proceed to Thorpe Langton, then Welham and then to turn right to Weston by Welland and do Three circuits on the chain gang course (Weston by Welland, left to Medbourne, left to Slawston, left to Cranoe, Left to Welham and around again). When passing through Cranoe for the third time, instead of going left to Welham at Cranoe, carry straight on and turn left up to Church Langton and the school car park to complete the course.

Who is it available to?
Chaingang Training sessions are open to all club members and that welcome is warmly extended to members of other clubs in the surrounding area.

What do I need?
For your Safety
It would be prudent to ride with a rear light and a front light is advisable if you intend riding home. A helmet is also advisable when riding in a group. I would also like to mention that Tri-bars should not be fitted and definitely not used.

 Welland Valley Cycling Club

Welland Valley Cycling Club are based on the borders of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire around the Market Harborough area. We have over 150 members who travel from as far a field as Northampton, Oakham, Lutterworth and North Leicestershire to take part in our various club activities.

Our aims are to enjoy cycling and have fun. We do this in many ways. The club has riders active in many disciplines including Races and Time Trials on the road and track and an active off road contingent competing in Cyclo-Cross and Mountain Bike events.  We also have a very active social scene within the club and aim to organise at least one trip to the Tour de France in July to watch a stage or two of the race.  Closer to home, after our evening events we generally relocate to a local hostelary for food and a drink.

Welland Valley CC are a Clubmark accredited club and run the very successful Go-Ride events for children between the ages of 5 and 16.
