You are here: Home   Search

The Association’s aim is to encourage, promote and develop cycle racing in Northamptonshire and adjoining counties.

The current focus of the Association is to encourage road racing, with a particular emphasis on introducing riders to the sport.

We feel that the best way to introduce riders to road racing is through organising handicap races.

Entry Details

NCRA Series 2012: Please read the information below before entering for any of the series.

Race entry procedure

Each member club has an ‘NCRA club captain’:

Rockingham Forest Wheelers – Vic Davis
St Ives CC - Tom Caldwell
45 RC - Alastair Shed
Renault Rotor Colbert RT - Dave Palmer
Kettering CC - John Hardwick
Fenland Clarion CC - Steve Clarke
Numplumz Mountain Bikers - Bob Mitchell
Loughborough Students CC - Alex Burrage
Peterborough CC - Ian Wild
Welland Valley CC - Ray Taylor.

Each club has 4 automatic places for each of the three series for each race it promotes, so Fenland Clarion CC, Kettering CC, Peterborough CC, Rockingham Forest Wheelers and Welland Valley CC all have 8 places for each series, while Loughborough Students CC, Numplumz Mountain Bikers, Renault Rotor Colbert RT, St Ives CC and 45RC all have 4 places for each series.

If a club doesn’t take up its full allocation of places, those places will be shared between the clubs which have more applicants than places. This process will be the responsibility of the series organizer, chairman and handicapper with recommendations from the relevant club captains.

Send your BC entry form (available at www.britishcycling.org.uk/road/article/roadst_Entry-Forms) for each series, with a cheque for £60 to NCRA (or cash), to your club captain, to arrive at least 4 weeks before the start of the series you want to enter.

The final allocation of places will be decided jointly by the series coordinator, the NCRA chairman and the handicapper, following the recommendations of each club captain.

At the 2011 annual general meeting it was decided that membership for 2012 would only be open to clubs offering to organise events.

News

Minutes of the 40th Annual General Meeting of the Northants Cycle Racing Association, held on Monday September 14th, 2009 at 7.30pm at the Rockingham Forest Clubhouse

Present – Norman Needham, Vic Davis, Rowland Summerlin (RFW), Simon Fitzhugh, Alastair Shed (45RC), Dave Birch (WVCC).

Apologies were received from John Partridge, Mike Cowland, Ian Wild, Bob Mitchell and Mick Ward.
The minutes of the 2008 Annual General Meeting were approved. There were the following matters arising:-
(i) 2 digital dictaphones were purchased and proved very useful to race judges.
(ii) there had been problems with the series trophy – it had broken while in the keeping of Mike Cowland, who held the trophy for 2007. He had arranged for it to be repaired but it was effectively replaced by a more sturdy version. The cost of the new trophy was £46.00 and was paid for by NCRA. The engraving had been brought up to date and the trophy was now on show in RFW clubhouse, having been won in 2009 by Roy Crombie. There had been a request from Ian Wild that the 2005 and 2006 winners have their names engraved on the trophy but it was felt that this was impractical as it was stated on this trophy that it wasn’t awarded until 2007.
(iii) committee members had been asked to go back to their clubs to see if from amongst their membership they could find a series organizer for 2010 handicaps – the matter had been discussed but no-one had come forward.

Secretary/Treasurer’s Report
2009 was another successful year. 18 clubs were affiliated and 6 riders took out individual affiliation. Both series were very well supported and together made a surplus of £749.91. Thanks to the host clubs for putting on the events, to Mick Ward for handicapping and to Dave Donoghue and John Partridge for judging. Thanks also to John Partridge and Carol Birch for collating the results and to Carol also for updating the website so effectively.

Surplus Moneys from 2009 Season
Suggestions were made that donations be made to the rehabilitation funds for Mike Springthorpe and Liam Prior, who had both been seriously injured while cycling this year. It was agreed that £400.00 be sent to both Mike and Liam.

Any other business
Committee members had heard ‘whispers in the wind’ about a demand for a third series, on Saturday afternoons in September. None of the committee felt that they had time to organize such a series but would be happy to hear from anyone who would like to do so.

The meeting closed at 9:00pm.
